The Brick Train Awards are a virtual, global competition to showcase LEGO® and brick train builders from across the world.
Brick Train Awards history
The awards started in 2020 as a response to much of the world being in lockdown due to COVID-19, giving a chance for LEGO® train fans around the world to meet and compete internationally.

The competition is organised by Richard, and supported by Henry and Levi of LUKR (LEGO UK Railway) The event is also supported by LEGO train clubs from around the world, including LLMTC in the Netherlands, Noppenbahner in Germany, Togklodsen in Denmark, VRLGM and MLTC in Australia, Texas Brick Railroad in the USA, and more.
- The 2020 Brick Train Awards had 10 categories for judging the best LEGO® models for locomotives, rolling stock and LEGO® train displays.
- The Brick Train Awards 2021 had 13 categories with 774 entries. In 2022 and 2023, the Brick Train Awards had 15 categories, including 3 dedicated categories for digital models only.
- The Brick Train Awards has had 17 categories since 2024. In 2026, the rules changed to allow brick builders using brands other than LEGO bricks to share their models with the community.
How the Brick Train Awards works
A lot of work is needed each year to ensure the Brick Train Awards smoothly. Here’s who
- Many months before the awards are open for entries, the organising team begins to confirm the categories to be used, agree sponsors, and revisit feedback from the previous year to improve fairness of the awards, change award category descriptions to be clearer, and remove or change categories which did not receive a high number of entries.
- Entries are open for one calendar month – this helps gives our organising team time to post the entries to social media (which is used in our Public Vote award each year) and lets us all enjoy the wide variety of LEGO railway and railroad models being shared
- Once entries close, judges meet to discuss winners for each category in their region. Entries are split in to 3 regions – Americas, Asia & Australasia, and Europe & Middle East – and this helps our judges manage a smaller amount of entries, ensuring they can fairly review each model entered. Winners at this stage will be announced as regional winners, and will be judged at a global level too.
- The judges and organising team meet to discuss which models should win each category at a global level – this usually takes quite a few hours as we receive so many fantastic models each year.
- We then record the winners’ announcement video, and share this with the LEGO train fan community. Winners are also published on the Brick Train Awards website, and on our social media accounts.
- Winners are notified by email, and we ask them to share their postal address with us so they can receive a Brick Train Awards winners’ brick and their prizes
