About Pennsylvania “G1/2” snowmelter by Ewout Rohling

In 1967, PRR GG1 No.4846 was involved in a serious wreck, resulting in half of the loco being written off. The other half, however, was towed to Wilmington, Delaware, where various modifications were made. It was fitted with new equipment and became a snowmelter around the Wilmington shops, keeping the switches clear of ice and snow.

Built as part of OcTRAINber 2022, the aptly nicknamed "G1/2" is currently the only American model in the fleet. While it takes plenty of inspiration from the Lego GG1s that have come before, it makes the most of the plethora of new elements that have appeared over recent years to be as faithful as possible to the flowing shape of the prototype.

Like the real thing, the G1/2 is unpowered, though I guess if I felt so inclined motorising it would make for a very unusual looking locomotive!
