About Plasser & Theurer 12t GPC72 Rail Crane by Stuart Jones

This is a functional model of the Plasser 12t GPC72 rail crane, which was introduced to the UK in the late 70s. I have aimed to capture the look of the real crane as closely as possible, combining realistic appearance with working rail crane functions in Lego. The model's crane functions are powered by a CircuitCube, which fits neatly into the front of the crane, with 3 motors (2 slung under the chassis and one in the cab). Drive is provided by a 9V motor. A video of the early WIP model, showing the jib lifting track panels, is at https://flic.kr/p/2mLNBF1. More pictures of the real cranes which I saw in service can be found on my Flickr account and I used these photos as reference and inspiration.
As an extra feature, glow-in-the-dark plates represent the lights on the real crane's solebar for night-time engineering work.
Thanks
Stuart
