About Queensland Rail DL Class ‘DL1’ – Preserved Condition by William Thomson

My model of the Queensland Rail DL Class. Specifically 'DL1' in preserved condition at the Ipswich Railway Workshops west of Brisbane, Queensland in Australia. 'DL1' differs a lot from the other DL units having an extensively modified cab when it was shifted from warm northern workings to cold southern works in the 1970s and 1980s. Queensland Rail's (at the time Queensland Government Railway's) DL Class was the first dedicated diesel locomotive to operate on the QLD 1,067mm (3ft 6in) network.
