About Reading T-1 No. 2101 – Chessie Steam Special by Nemowerty

From 1945-1947, the Reading Railroad in Eastern Pennsylvania converted 30 2-8-0 “Consolidation” type locomotives into 4-8-4 T-1 “Northern” type engines, hauling freight and coal. No. 2101 was restored in 1975 to carry the first portion of the “American Freedom Train,” and was then repainted for excursions on the Chessie System as the Chessie Steam Special. After suffering critical damage in a shed fire in 1979, 2101 was put on static display at the B&O Railroad Museum.
