About RhB ‘Alpine Classic Pullman Express’ by dolfmeister
The 'Alpine Classic Pullman Express' is the Rhätisch Bahn (RhB)'s fleet of historic vehicles liveried in midnight blue, ivory and gold trims. The concept began in the late 1990s, when coaches dating from around 1930 were successively modernised and restored.
Coaches are available for charter in many combinations for private functions such as weddings or corporate events, either with a matching historic locomotive and time table, or added to a scheduled train.
Organised gourmet experiences are scheduled sporadically, with trains travelling to Zermatt (Glacier Express route) on Switzerland's contiguous metre-gauge network. On one occasion, a coach was taken as far as the top of Gornergrat, at an altitude of 3089m!
The fleet consists of Pullman saloon cars (As 1141 - 1144, As 1154), dining cars with kitchens (WR 3810 - 3813) dining room car without kitchen (WR-S 3814), piano bar car (WR-S 3820) and two luggage vans (D2 4051 / 4062).
Suitable historic locomotives include G 4/5 107 - 108 (steam), Ge 4/6 353, Ge 2/4 222, Ge 6/6 I 414 - 415, as well as Furka Oberalp HGe 4/4 I 36.
