About RhB Salonwagen As 1141 – 1144 ‘Alpine Classic Pullman Express’ Livery by dolfmeister

As 1141 - 1144 are four luxurious Pullman-style coaches originally constructed for the Montreux Oberland Bernois railway (MOB) in 1929. They were in service for just one season, before the Great Depression put an end to the streams of wealthy tourists who would use them. With limited seating capacity, it was not considered worthwhile using them, so they spent a lot of their time laid up in sidings.

In the late 1940s, the coaches were sold to the Rhätische Bahn (RhB), who modified them to comply with their technical requirements, and put them into service on their main line express trains between Chur and resorts including Davos and St Moritz.

Originally liveried in dark green and ivory, this was changed to red and ivory during a 1970s restoration. In this appearance, they could often be seen on excursion together with the famous Rhaetian Crocodile Ge 6/6 I.

Worn out and under threat of being scrapped, a campaign was launched in the 1990s to save them. The project was successful, and raised funds to have the coaches modernised and their interiors restored to original condition. They were turned out in the new midnight blue and ivory livery with gold trims, reminiscent of the Orient Express. At the same time, the concept of the 'Alpine Classic Pullman Express' was born.
