About SNCF Grand Confort carriage by John Marshall

SNCF's "Grand Confort" carriages were France's most luxurious carriages through the 1970s and into the early 80s. Featuring on prestigious named trains and TEE first-class-only expresses such as Aquitaine, Capitole and Lyonnais, they were capable of running at up to 200km/h, and had a heavily curved lower shell ("tumblehome") to allow for a leaning capability (never developed) for even higher speeds.

This carriage represents a first-class corridor car with fully detailed interior including window blinds, baggage racks and smoked-glass vestibule doors. The exterior includes power couplings (a typical consist would include a bar car, restaurant car and a hair salon - their power consumption was substantial!), underbody details and bogies capable of negotiating R56 curves.
