About South Australian Y class 2-6-0 by Ewout Rohling

With 129 built between 1885 & 1898, the Y was the most numerous class in South Australia. Many more were built for other railways around the country, as well as the rest of the world.

They were reliable and versatile machines, lasting until 1958. Six have been preserved.
