About South Australian Y class by Ewout Rohling

More than 100 of these small but mighty 2-6-0s were built for the South Australian Railways, plying their trade on routes to Peterborough, Port Augusta, and Alice Springs. First appearing in the 1880s, they lasted until the 1950s, and several have been preserved.

This model is a significant redesign of a much older model, my first in narrow gauge. The new model much better captures the stocky, even a little squat, characterful appearance of the Y.
