About Staten Island Railway R211S by Ethan C ( @ABentMetrocard )

Prototype: The R211”S” car type represents the latest rolling stock within the Staten Island Railway (SIR). It is a modified version of the NYC Subway R211A that’s exclusively for the SIR, which is classified as a railroad.
LEGO Model: Due to the complex geometry and numerous angles inherent in its design, this model stands as my most intricate project to date. The curved sides use a largely similar technique to my R160, but improved to be more stable. Surprisingly, the model is not fragile at all and the walls cannot get pushed out of their 5 degree angle. A particularly tricky feature was the prominent diagonal dark‑blue stripe, the angled headlights and mask around the front cab window. These are all features I wanted to use a brick‑built approach to minimize reliance on stickers. The entire model is built with official LEGO pieces, excluding the bearing wheels that allowed me to include the functioning spinning ‘half-moons’ on the bearings. While only a single car has been physically constructed at this time, I utilized Stud.io to produce a digital rendering of a complete five‑car Staten Island Railway consist.
