V36 Deutz 47163 of German Federal Post

The V36 series was a diesel locomotive originally developed for the German Wehrmacht as type WR 360 C14. After the war, the surviving locomotives continued to be used, but also new V36 were built. Diesel locomotive 47163 from 1951 manufactured by Deutz was put into service as “No. 3” by the Deutsche Bundespost (German Federal Post). She served as a shunting locomotive at the Oberpostdirektion (Upper Post Direction) Hanover - together with two other V36s and a Köf. The paint was initially completely black. Since the mid 60s red and black with a silver roof. The four postal locomotives were in use around the clock in three shifts. Each of them made 160 to 200 trips a day! In 1972 the Hanover post office stopped shunting services with its own locomotives. 47163 was then sold to Italy to the Imp. Giovanni Veltri company in Ciampino near Rome. There it was painted postal yellow with the inscription “Deutsche Bundespost” (!) in 1987 and continued to be operated by the private company.
