About Yass Junction by Ewout Rohling

Yass Junction is a major station on the Main South Line between Sydney and Albury. Opened in 1876, the station is situated about 4km from the town of Yass it claims to serve. Unhappy with how far their new station was, the people of Yass petitioned for a tramway into town. This was opened in 1892, with the existing station accordingly renamed. The tramway ceased operations in 1988.

Yass Junction was chosen because it offers a good operational variety: a double-track main line, a goods yard, and a branch line. Though still only a third of its intended length, it's already proven to be a head-turner at shows!
