About Maine Central 470 – “Mascot of Maine” by Glenn Holland

Maine Central 470 is the largest surviving steam locomotive from the New England States and Maritime Canada. Built in 1925 by the American Locomotive Company, it pulled famous passenger trains on the Maine Central including the Bar Harbor Express and the Gull. It pulled the last steam powered train on the Maine Central in 1954 before being put on display where it sat for six decades. The New England Steam Corporation acquired the locomotive and has been working to restore the locomotive to operating condition.
